BLOOMING SEOUL: SEOKCHON LAKE (Seoul, South Korea)

“You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep Spring from coming.”

So, you are in Seoul and wondering where to spend your day to see the cherry blossoms, without the hassle and the crowd of Yeouido (the most popular cherry blossom festival in Seoul)? Seokchon Lake would be it. The best time to see this would be mid-April. There is no denying the lake itself is a class of its own, but the cherry trees that lines up the whole lake park is another story. If you are looking for an afternoon stroll at the park while marvelling the embroidered cherry blossom trees, this is the place for you. It has fun activities for everyone, from adults to kids. You will see Koreans having a picnic under the trees, kids having fun and enjoying the rides at the nearby Lotte World and lovers taking a stroll.

Living in Asia has blessed us to see and appreciate the beauty of cherry blossoms (it is not as prevalent or native in the US). During spring time, cherry blossoms are not just in Seoul but all around South Korea. These cherry trees are everywhere, and it is such a delight to see Mother Nature's display of its best colors.

Our favorite part of springtime is when the leaves of the cherry trees are starting to fall, reminiscent of snow, but this time with little petals slowly kissing the ground. This is probably one of the long list of things we will miss the most if we leave South Korea.

Oh this looks magical! I've yet to travel to this part of the world and seriously need to time it right to experience these blossoms. Maybe with someone special, they look very romantic.

What a crazy beautiful city. My friend lived in Seoul for 10 years, then moved back to Canada to have her child. I'm pretty sure the 3 of them want to move back there, asap. And no wonder! How beautiful.
