FINALLY, we have stepped foot on our 6th continent, it was impressive and larger-than-life experience especially after seeing the astounding Machu Picchu. We took a taxi ride going back to Cuzco where we book our last two nights to enjoy what Cuzco has to offer at the same time to see other sites going towards Cuzco like Pisac. In Pisac, there is a lot to see and it is well known for its market. We stopped their first to see some of Peru's finest souvenirs. There's a lot of things I wanted to buy but sadly, the way we move, I didn't want to get something and bring it around with us every time.
Then we went to see Pisac Ruins - another example of Inca temple and great architecture. The place was mountain upon mountains, your eyes feast everywhere. It was just a beauty to see. The Andean mountain region is just awe inspiring, peaceful and simple. The towns around seem to live a very simple farming life.
Then we went and visited Awana Kancha - it is an exhibition center for textiles around Peru and South America. There you can see llamas and alpacas, basically they use the fur of these animals to use as thread to create beautifully hand woven textiles.
We then continued our journey towards Cuczo but we had a few more stops along the way - Tambomachay or The Bath of the Inca and Saqsaywaman Fortress. Both architectural wonder has its own unique character that makes it stand out among the rest. As always, these sights will keep you wondering how where they able to do such feat with rudimentary materials.
When we arrived in Cuzco, we decided to rest a little bit and we walked around Cuzco's main square and meander around the little streets. Cuzco is very charming, you can really see and feel the colonial influence of the Spaniards in this country. I often compare this place to Vigan, Ilocus Sur in the Philippines. It has the same atmosphere of colonial architecture and Spanish style churches.
Cuzco is worthy of every stop and make sure you do on your way to or out of Machu Picchu.
