In the morning I pack up my gear,
and toss it in my carryall.
Run the wide load to the lip
and watch the big core crack and glow.

We made our way back to Croatia from Montenegro. The drive is around 5 hours but we took the scenic route and it added one more hour on our trip but it was worth it! The Adriatic Coast Highway is as pretty as you could imagine - jagged cliffs, arid mountains, floating islands, the blue sea and terracotta-roofed houses.

We drove to the second largest city in Croatia - Split. Split is a mix with old and new. The Old Town where Diocletian's Palace is shows the great and impressive Roman architecture as it once was. Inside the Old Town, you can see modern shops, restaurants, and cafes. The best way to see the beauty of the city is from a ferry ride going out or going into this exciting city. Since we arrived in the afternoon, we walked down the promenade, enjoyed the sunset while feeling the sea breeze.

Split is a ferry hub for the Croatian islands so if you intend to hit up an islands you will most likely need to pass through here.  Since you can see most of the major sights in a few hours, we suggest arriving mid day and leaving for the islands the following morning.

Tired from the drive and walking at the Old Town, we decided to have dinner at Paradigma. We had an excellent meal and not to mention, excellent customer service combined with good ambiance. The staff that served us was the best service we had from this trip. The food was well prepared and nicely presented. It was a nice change from the typical Dalmatian menu of grilled and fried seafood that we've seen. The dessert was so good that we went back the next night just to get it again.
