TEMPLE ON AN ISLAND (Aswan, Egypt)

We stayed in Movenpick Hotel Aswan and this boat transported us to the island.

Sadly, we weren't able to take the train from Cairo to Aswan since it was fully booked. We booked a last minute ticket to fly from Cairo to Aswan instead. We stayed in a hotel by the Nile River, we had a great time walking the streets of Aswan, marvelling the sights that surrounded us. One of our day trips from Aswan was to go to Philae Temple, a temple situated on an island.
Ain't it good to breathe the air?
Another spin around the sun,
On this spec of life in the universe,
A little peace of life in everyone,
Ain't it good to be alive?
Alive - Edwin

Philae is an island in the Nile River. Before getting to Philae Temple, we cruised the Nile River. Philae Temple is dedicated for the goddesses Isis. Philae the modern day name is Greek but the ancient Egyptians called the island P-aaleq which amongst other definitions has the dual meaning of "end" and "creation". It is believed that the various structures contained on Philae Island took 800 years to build (mostly during the Roman period).

Your photos are just stunning, Egypt has long been on my bucket list and I can't wait to finally manage to explore for myself. Noted to book the trains in advance so they don't book out on us :)

Wow, I love your pictures! Do you use a special filter on them? They look amazing!

Cruising the Nile must have been sooo cool. It's such a historic river.

It's great to see another interesting place in Egypt to go to! (mostly we see people going to the pyramids). Thanks for sharing and I'll keep this in mind for when I travel to Egypt in the future!

Beautiful pictures! It looks like there wasn't too many other people at the temple crowding it out either. I haven't heard much about Aswan so I look forward to seeing more from your blog!
